Wausau Paper, Brandtjen & Kluge, LLC., UEI Group, Infinity Foils, Inc. and Duplo USA are teaming together to produce writing/activity booklets at PRINT ’05 & Converting ’05.
Exhibiting at tradeshows requires the use of a lot of stock. Rather than see the paper go to waste, these five companies will finish 20,000 booklets which will then be donated to several Montessori Schools in Minnesota.
“When we approached the schools, they loved the idea,” commented Hank Brandtjen, President of Brandtjen & Kluge, LLC. “Getting such quality cover stock and filler pages from Wausau Paper was the key. From there, everyone really pulled together.”
An art competition was held by the schools, and the winning drawing has been used to make a hand engraved foil stamping and embossing die by UEI Group. This die, with foil being provided by Infinity Foils, Inc., will be used to create the covers at Brandtjen & Kluge, LLC. (booth #212). Then, each day, the finished covers, along with the appropriate number of filler pages, will go to Duplo USA (booth #3622) for printing and binding.
Wausau Paper has donated Royal Complements 100 lb. stock for the covers and their newest line of opaque paper, Exact Ice, for the inside pages.
The foil stamping and embossing will be done on a Kluge EHD Series Press.
The printing will be done on a Duplo DP 460H Air Feed Digital Printing System. The Duplo System 5000 will then collate, saddle stitch, fold and trim the booklets.
The final product will then be an 8.5″ x 11″ booklet with 24 pages that the schools will use to teach writing skills.
“A project like this is really wonderful,” added Hank Brandtjen. “As exhibitors, we get to show what our equipment is capable of. Knowing that we are helping children’s education is truly icing on the cake!”
